Great Ways For Work at Home Moms to Make Extra Money

Work at home moms have an abundance of online opportunities to choose from to earn extra money. Unfortunately, there is also an abundance of shady opportunities on the Internet. The biggest tip for work at home moms to help them avoid these bad apples is to remember that no legitimate employer will ask you to pay anything in return for a job. With that in mind, lets look at five of the best ways in which work at home moms can supplement their income.

1. Freelance writing. Consider being a freelance writer and editor for a company or for individual clients. In the fast growing world of the Internet, great content is always highly sought after. If you have a specific topic that you would like to write about, consider going online to find an electronic publication or ezine to write for. If you are able to write on a wide variety of topics, then you’ll find even more opportunities to write. It’s easy enough to find clients; you can either join some Internet marketing forums or sign up on a couple of freelancing websites.

2. Website / graphic design. If you have an artistic flair, then you should consider entering the website designing business. All you need is Adobe Photoshop and some creative inspiration and you’re good to go. Whether it be logos, banners, eBook covers, icons, blogging themes or entire websites, this type of service is always in demand. The possibilities with design are really endless and people will pay top prices if you can do excellent work for them.

3. Virtual assisting. Being a virtual assistant is kind of like being a secretary, except that you can work from your own home. You may be answering calls that have been directed through to you, responding to emails, updating websites or databases, or anything of that sort. So long as you have good interpersonal skills, have at least an average standard of reading and writing, and are proficient on software such as Word and Outlook, then is absolutely no reason why you couldn’t be a virtual assistant.

4. eBay dropshipping. It’s common knowledge that you can use eBay to make money by selling off your unwanted items, but not too many people know that it can also be used for dropshipping. This is basically where you find a supplier for a product, you list the product on eBay and, when it is sold, you forward the order to the supplier, you pay the supplier their cut out of the sale proceeds and keep the rest. The great thing about this model is that you do not need to worry about fulfillment or keeping inventory.

5. Blogging. This tends not to be result in instant cash but, as a long term model, you can easily make a passive income. To get started, you just need to set-up a Wordpess blog on your own domain, with the total cost of doing so being about $10 a year. If you post regularly, and keep your content consistent to your theme, your readership will steadily grow, your blog will gain visibility within your niche, and you’ll start to earn money from ads as well as other revenue sources.

What’s so Great About Twitter?

“What are you doing?” This is the question that Twitter asks you upon logging in or upon opening the site. Just what are you doing? If this is how the site charms its members, what’s so great about Twitter?

First, you need to know what the site is. Basically, it is a social network and micro-blogging service. If you are familiar with FaceBook, MySpace, or Multiply, then you’ll have no problems getting into Twitter.

As a social network, it aims to gather groups of people who have the same interests. As a micro-blogging service, it provides short updates on the users blogs, or even just his activities.

Twitter is all about the “tweets”, or updates. Updates are the answers to the ultimate Twitter question: “What are you doing?” What’s great about Twitter is that is only requires you 140 characters to answer the site’s central question. To many, the prescribed length of characters is seen as a limitation. On the other hand, it challenges you to say things using fewer words. After all, less is always more!

So again, what’s so great about Twitter? What makes it different from other social networking sites?

The Terms

The terms that Twitter uses are unique and interesting enough to differentiate the site from other social networks, like “tweet”, for example. Below is a list of Twitter terms that you need to be familiar with:

1.Follower – Those who have chosen to receive your tweets. Simply put, these are your friends who want to be updated about your life.

2.Following – Those whom you want to be updated about. For instance, if you are following Anna, you will receive Anna’s tweets regularly. Following Anna essentially shows that you want to know what Anna is up to as of the moment.

3.Nudge – This is a friendly reminder to your circle, urging them to give out updates. You can nudge, and you can be nudged.

The Commands

The commands used in Twitter are plain and simple, no pesky steps that need to be followed. If you want to tweet, you simply have to write your message in the small box on top of your page.

The registration process? Simply wonderful! You don’t need to key in a number of unimportant pieces of personal information. You just have to be ready with a username (and Twitter checks out the availability of that chosen name right then and there), a password, an email address, and a URL to your personal site or blog, if you have one. The registration process takes no more than 2 minutes of your time.

The Ways to Receive the Tweets

With Twitter, you are provided with more than one way of sending your tweets. This feature is perhaps the most remarkable edge of Twitter. So how can you post your 140-character updates?

1. Through your home page at Twitter.com. – This is the most widely-used method of tweeting. The home page is so friendly and is neat-looking. As such, you aren’t bothered by pesky pop-ups, complicated commands, and useless applications whose sole purpose is to make the page look heavy. Now with such an atmosphere, isn’t it nice to just randomly type in your thoughts? Even tweets such as “I’m bored” are very welcome on Twitter!

2. Through your mobile phone. – Before you can use this feature, you need to verify your number first. It can be done in a few simple steps.

Before you start, however, you initially need to check if your area or country of residence supports this type of service. Surely, those living in the US and Canada will fully enjoy the advantages of this feature.

3. Through http://www.m.twitter.com. – This is Twitter’s mobile site.

4. Through third-party applications. – Twitter Fan Wiki is the most popular third party application that uses Twitter’s API (Application Programming Interface). As it is a “wiki”, you can add, remove, and edit available content. You simply have to create an account to join this group.

Twitter is a relatively new network. Its official launching can be traced back no more than two years ago – July 15, 2006, to be exact. Despite this, it has gathered more than 3 million accounts in just over two years of operation. This shows how increasingly popular Twitter has become.

So, what’s so great about Twitter? Everything!

Blogging for Business the Great Thing About Web Logs and the Growing Set of Software

If Howard Dean’s failed political campaign accomplished anything, I would say that it brought to the mainstream the use of something called a weblog or “blog” as it known in cyberspace. A blog is really nothing more than a diary uploaded to the Internet and until about the last 12 months was the realm of the individual who saw it as a way to publish there random (and sometimes disturbed) thoughts.

The great thing about weblogs, and the growing set of software that is being created to publish them, is that they are a tremendous business tool for the help www.feed-reader-links.com. Weblogs allow you to create content and contact…and that is what your clients crave more than anything. I use a program (there is a free trial version) called PMachine to publish my weblog.

This program allows me to simply make many entries and updates and also allows readers to add comments. Better still, now seemingly random articles can be sorted and searched by content or subject. My weblog is more like a content management system and my readers seem to love it. Another great reason to explore the use of weblogs is that search engines seem to love them. Within 30 days of launching my weblog it became the most visited page on my fairly high traffic website. So what is it about blogs that those little spiders love so much?

Here’s a little secret, search engines crave content. Okay so maybe that’s not such a secret but to look at many websites you would think it so. The fact is that too many websites just sit there doing nothing that the search engines admire. Providing content, not to mention fresh content, is one of the toughest chores of anyone who maintains a website. But when it comes to generating traffic it is the most important job. Blogs, by their very nature, are all about content. In a commercial environment every blog entry is fresh content. Get in the habit of making two, three, even four entries a week and you’ve got a content building bonanza on your hands for the help www.rss-announcers.com. Everyone knows you need new content to give visitors a reason to come back; blogs just make the task so much easier. Another advantage that blogs seem to currently possess over traditional web pages and sites is lack of competition. While the number of bloggers grows daily, there are still relatively few commercial blog sites. When I created my blog I found that it showed up in the number 3 spot in Google for the term “Marketing Weblog” within about 3 weeks of launch. Not bad considering I did nothing to make it happen.

There are a couple of other things you should do to make your weblog a traffic magnet. They aren’t really that different than tradition SEO tactics but the names and faces are unique to the blogging world. Use targeted keywords in your entry titles No rocket science here but this tip can’t be stated enough. Forget cute…go for titles that fit your targeted keywords and phrases…even if they seem a bit awkward. (You do have targeted keywords and phrases don’t you?

Seven Characteristics of a Great WebPages

Wouldn’t you like to know the main ingredients for creating a superior webpage? What basic elements you must have if you want a solidly designed webpage? A webpage that will stand out and be noticed by your visitors. One that will keep those visitors returning to your site, again and again. An effective webpage that is 95% better than most of the other pages on the Net.

Follow these simple design features when creating your next webpage and you will have the answer:

1. Good Keywords

The nucleus. The conception. Good keywords are the very first building blocks you must consider before your webpage even becomes a dim notion in your head. Picking the right keyword or keyword phrase is the ultimate factor that will determine the success or failure of your webpage. You must do major research on the keyword or keyword phrases that will be the focal point and drawing card for your webpage.

You must get this right. It is vital. It is the single most important element of a webpage. You can use keyword research software and sites such as GoodKeywords, Wordtracker.com, Nichebot.com, or superior keyword research software such as Brad Callen’s Keyword Elite.

Regardless of what process you favor, you must choose your keywords very carefully. You must check the competition for your chosen keywords or phrase. You must check the number of searches made each month for your keyword. You must also check the keyword density of your page to see if it will register in the search engines. You may have to adjust or fine-tune your keyword density at a later date.

Make sure you place your keyword in the title of your page. Place it in the first Headline on the page and many marketers also place their keyword or phrase in the url. For example: www.yourdomain.com/keyword.html This will help the search engines and surfers to find your page quicker.

2. Simple Design

Keep it simple. You must keep your webpage simple and direct. Keep it professional. Make sure it is readable and clear to all your visitors. Do a spell check. Do a grammar check. You may also want to check how your webpage looks in all types of browsers (www.anybrowser.com). Better safe than sorry.

Keep your visitors in mind at all times when designing your webpage. Keep it on topic, keep it related to your keywords. Most marketing studies show that’s it’s best not to confuse your visitors with too many options. If you’re selling a product or products, limit the number on each page to one product if you can.

If you have a comparison page, limit the number to three or four. Studies also show that if you present too many options or products, the conversion rate goes down, not up. Keep all your products related. If you have a page on laptops, don’t start discussing the benefits of owning a SUV.

Keep your sentences short and the number of words on a page down to 200 to 300. Many sites break up longer articles into multi-pages, this will be of some inconvenience for your visitors but you will have more room for advertising – your call.

3. Optimized

Let’s face it, the average webpage will get most of its traffíc from the search engines, mainly Google, although MSN and Yahoo are also worth considering. Optimize your page for Google. Use a simple hierarchy, keep your pages no more than three clicks away from the main page. Linking all your pages to your index page is a good practice, always do this. The search engines will find your page faster if it is linked directly from the main index page of your site.

Using blogging software/structure that comes with such free blogging software as Wordpress will optimize your pages for you. Blogging systems have a linking hierarchy (categories, archives, etc.) that are very search engine friendly. It’s almost impossible not to optimize your pages if you’re using a blogging system. Plus, you have an RSS feed that will syndicate your content and place it into the search engines very quickly.

Check factors such as Mega Tags, title description and content. Use a robots text file for the search engine robots.

If you’re new to building webpages, you may want to check out Google’s Webpage Creator, you can create your pages and have it hosted free by Google and they will be indexed immediately in Google. Big Plus!

4. Easy Navigation

A great webpage will have easy and simple navigation. Link your page to and from your main index page if you can. Make sure you link to it from your sitemap page. Many webmasters put all the main links on their site at the top or the bottom of all their webpages, so that a visitor can freely move around and find what they’re looking for. Keep your visitors’ comfort level in mind at all times.

Double check to see all links on your webpage work! You may be surprised how many don’t work, especially if you link out to other sites. The search engines don’t like broken links, neither will your visitors.

Also double check to see if all images on your page display properly. Nothing will bring down the quality of your page faster than images that don’t load.

5. Fresh Content

A great webpage will always have fresh content. Make sure you update your webpage often. Our world’s technology changes rapidly, make sure your material is current and still revelant.

Remember, 9 times out of 10, the only reason a visitor is on your page is for information. Make sure you deliver. Make sure that information is recent and accurate. Besides, there is nothing like fresh content to keep your visitors interested and coming back for more.

6. Bookmarkable

A great webpage will always be bookmarkable. Your visitor will want to bookmark your page and return to it for more information. Make sure you make it easy for your visitor to bookmark your page. Use a bookmark script. Make sure you have a favicon, this is a small logo you place on your site and it will be automatically picked up and displayed in your visitor’s bookmarks, drawing attention to your page. Consider a bookmark and favicon like bread crumbs, all leading the visitor back to your page.

7. Cool

Every great webpage should have a WOW factor! Try to make your page stand out from the crowd. Try to make it unique, try to make it cool. Just remember, a simple professional webpage with valuable information is always cool. And remember there is nothing like a little good ‘word of mouth’ to get some traffic drawing PR for your page. Great buzz about your webpage is worth its worth in gold.

So the next time you’re designing a webpage, go all out and try to create your webpage with all of the characteristics listed above. Start with your keywords, keep it simple, proof-read and test for coding errors, create good navigation and optimize for the search engines, make sure you provide valuable fresh content and information. Last but not least, try your hardest to make your webpage memorable and bookmarkable. Make it a professional webpage that will be superior to the majority of other pages on the web.

Aim high and you will reap the rewards.

How To Use Twitter As A Great Writing Exercise While Learning

One of the latest social networking phenomenons is Twitter. It seems to be on the mind of every celebrity, politician, student, business owner, and social maven.

If you aren’t aware of what Twitter is, here is a brief description. Twitter lets you post (the catch is 140 characters total or less) what you are doing, thoughts on a subject, a plug for a product, or a hello to your friends. You follow Twitter users and they can follow you as well.

Here is where I have found a new use of the site. One of the exercises I am currently teaching is how to say what you need to in articulate sentences while still staying in the 140 character restriction.

Yes, there are ways to circumvent the limitations such as using u for you or 4 and not 4 but when you can get a full impact to the reader without having to abbreviate your thoughts, you have learned a valuable tool.

When you speak or write the key is to keep the attention of those that you are communicating with. We often find ourselves endlessly explaining something that could be stated in more concise patterns.

The exercise is can be advantageous for the sports commentator that has to get his point across between each pitch of a baseball game or in between downs of a National Football League broadcast. It can help somebody on a job interview think faster and better their choice of words. Maybe you are a business owner and need to get the attention of a future client in a couple of sentences, or you are writing a headline for a blog post.

Whatever the reason why not try this. Think of a message you want to get across to friends, family, co-workers, and so on. Start to write the contents in Microsoft Word. When you have finished check the character count and if it is over 140 try to condense it without using abbreviations and losing the meaning of your thoughts. The next thing you can do is to take something that you have already posted or written that is over 140 characters and see if you can truncate this as well. It is not always feasible to be effective with a word or character limitation but for practice it can only benefit your speaking and writing capabilities today, tomorrow, and further down the road. What have you got to loose but a few words. Good luck!

Social Media – a Great Way to get established

You’ve taken the leap to entrepreneurship, and you’re ready to tell the world about it. There are a lot of media available to get that accomplished – some of the paid, some of them free. But the most important medium has nothing to do with advertising. It has everything to do with establishing trust in you and your enterprise by making valuable information available to the readers of various social media sites. This is done through postings of blogs and articles to social media sites or blog sites.

Get ready to spend a lot of time on this activity. Not only are there hundreds of sites to choose from, you will also need to develop valuable content on an ongoing basis. The more you post, the more often your name or the name of your enterprise will pop up – along with your website link! Marketing on the Internet is the same as traditional marketing – it’s a numbers game. Overnight successes can happen, but they are the exception.

There is another reason why this will be a worthwhile activity: It can give you valuable market research information. Your readers can feed their opinions to your articles – good or bad – back to you instantly. And sometimes they may share information that will help improve your product or service. So, don’t get discouraged if you spend a lot of time and don’t get instant results. It’s a cumulative process.

To avoid early burn-out, start slowly by deciding on two or three sites to communicate to. You need to establish an account on each site before you can post. Then click on the categories that pertain to your business and “lurk” for a while until you get the feel on how people communicate on each site.

Some popular social networking sites are: Bebo, Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Orkut, Skyrock, Hi5, Ning, Elgg.

Flickr is a photo sharing site, and YouTube is a video sharing site. Some popular blogging sites are:

Blogger, LiveJournal, Open Diary, TypePad, WordPress. In addition, there are hundreds of sites that are specialized to particular business interest. Researching which ones pertain to your business will pay big dividends because the traffic you get will be high-quality.

Make Money Online Just By Using A Great Blog Theme

I recently asked my friend, Mark, himself a self-made internet millionaire and affiliate marketing master (you may very well have heard of him–seen “Affilorama” or any affiliate guru interviews?), how I could start making money online.  There are loads of places to go, of course, but where is the best place to start?

I have to admit that I wasn’t expecting his “first step” to have to do with blogging, but that’s what he told me, and let me tell you, he’s right.  If you’re into blogging, want to work from home, and use or plan to use WordPress to make money, then listen up.

So the site he tells me to visit is Ultimate Blogging Theme, made by a 13-year old Kidblogger (who’s now 15, still young enough to be my son!).  I mean, first of all I was amazed that someone so young was telling me how to make money online!  But what surprised and amazed me more is to how he managed to grab the top spot at Google for keywords, which anyone involved in affiliate marketing and SEO has been trying to rank for such a long time (ie, LOTS of people!) .

Well, he’s been number 1, sometimes number 2 or number 3 for the keyword phrase “make money online”.  No small feat, huh?

Not only that, I’m told he manages four figure monthly income because of his top Google blog.

Also pretty impressive!

What impresses me personally the most is how he exactly made all this money and success.  It wasn’t by traditional affiliate marketing means, per se, but by creating his own, well-optimized WordPress blog theme. Not what you’d normally expect, but definitely a money-maker all the same.  His site covers how to make money from blog ads, widgets, retaining visitors, attractive widgets, and more.

Of course, the guy does know the basics of high search rankings, otherwise he would never have done so well for himself.  Aside from the blog theme, he shares some of his secrets in on-page SEO and ad placements optimization.

So does the Ultimate Blogging Theme service work?  Well, if you’re not quite an expert and either a complete newbie or somewhat experienced, then I definitely recommend this–especially if you can’t be bothered with all the nitty-gritty programming!  You’ll save time with all that stuff, won’t waste time with mistakes, and get right to business.  And as we all know, time really is money.

Even if you are advanced, hey, it doesn’t hurt to learn some more.  This kid didn’t get to #1 by accident, I can certainly testify to that.

But hey, see for yourself.  I think it is actually worth the money because of how quickly the site gets you into the game, particularly in an online money maker you may not have originally considered.  And hey, he’s got an affiliate program himself.  You can make some money advertising this guy and using his success to your advantage in MORE than one way.

So it’s win-win, all around, and making money online really just got easier.

PS–If you’re not sure which of Carl’s products to get, please note that the order page takes you first to the $97 kit, which is more complete, but you can click a link on the bottom that takes you to the sale price.

See, I’m not only helping you make money, but saving it, too! ;)
